Elysium gas fees: what a trade actually costs
Elysium is an L2, so blockspace is cheap: a typical swap costs a fraction of a cent in HYPE. But because every action still needs gas, and because the fee market moves, it pays to understand the basics.
What you pay
| Action | Gas (approx.) | At current base fee |
|---|---|---|
| Buy a coin (swap) | 150–300K | well under $0.01 |
| Approve a coin for selling | ~50K | negligible |
| Sell a coin | 150–300K | well under $0.01 |
| Create a coin on a launchpad | 2–5M | a few cents |
On top of gas you pay the pool's trading fee (set by the launchpad, usually 1%) and, on ElyScreener, a 0.5% routing fee.
Why "max fee per gas less than block base fee"?
Wallets estimate the fee from the last block. On a new chain with bursts of launch activity the base fee can jump between the estimate and your confirmation. MetaMask then refuses to send. Fix: in the transaction window choose Aggressive gas (or raise the max fee manually) and resend. Nothing was spent by the failed attempt.
Keep a gas reserve
The classic trap: buy a coin with all your HYPE, then be unable to sell because you have no gas. Always keep at least 0.01–0.02 HYPE untouched. The Max button in ElyScreener's swap panel leaves this reserve automatically.
